Victorian ungdomskriminalitet "Young people have always got into trouble with the law. What changes over
time is how society deals with its young offenders. Before Victorian times no
distinction was made between criminals of any age. Accordingly, young children
could be sent to an adult prison. There are records of children aged 12 being
hanged. The Victorians were very worried about crime and its causes. Reformers
were asking questions about how young people who had broken the law ought to be
treated. They could see that locking children up with adult criminals was hardly
likely to make them lead honest lives in the future. On the other hand, they
believed firmly in stiff punishments. This Public Record Office website looks at
the cases of two child criminals, Elizabeth Roberts and George Page."

Crime Library is a rapidly growing collection of more than over 500 nonfiction
feature stories on major crimes, criminals, trials, forensics and criminal
profiling, as well as award-winning fiction short stories by prominent writers.
The stories focus mostly on recent crimes, but an expanding collection also
delves into historically notorious characters, dating back to the 1400s and
spanning the globe. The Crime Library serves as an important resource for
students researching current and historical subjects." (Spartacus)

www.channel4.com/science/microsites/C/crime_team/crime.html
kriminalhistorier fra Channel 4 Channel 4's Crime Team lifts the lid on grisly murders from the crime history
books. Each week two celebrity sleuths, from politicians to art critics, turn
detective; their powers of deduction tested to the full, pitted against
investigators of another era with only the forensic tools of the time to crack
the case. Starting at the real murder scene, they must ask the right question of
adjudicator Jerome Lynch QC to gain the next piece of evidence, before naming
their killer. But immersing themselves in the historical period of the time,
another picture emerges - often of social inequality and harsh justice. This
website looks at the people and the influences at work. And having learned how
to chase leads and rule out red herrings, you can take the challenge and have a
go at cracking the site's own murder mystery. |

of School Crime and Safety: 2001 Indicators of School Crime and Safety: 2001
"This report presents data on crime at school from the perspectives of
students (12-18 years of age), teachers, principals, and the general population
from an array of sources--the National Crime Victimization Survey (1992-99), the
School Crime Supplement to the National Crime Victimization Survey (1989, 1995
and 1999), the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (1993, 1995, 1997 and 1999), and the
School and Staffing Survey (1993-94). A joint effort by the Bureau of Justice
Statistics and National Center for Education Statistics, the report examines
crime occurring in school as well as on the way to and from school. Data for
crime away from school are also presented to place school crime in the context
of crime in the larger society. The report provides the most current detailed
statistical information to inform the Nation on the nature of crime in schools." |

Coping with Bullies ( Scottish
Council for Research in education) Storbritannien
" Violence of the criminal kind makes the headlines,
but the sort that gives parents and kids the most day-to-day
anguish is bullying, so often at the root of more overt
violence. The Scottish Council for Research in Education offers
a fine mix of resources on the subject, including surveys,
tools for creating policy, the omnipresent links list, and
advice for parents (don't let bullying slide, even when the
victims are reluctant to discuss it). According to one of
the studies detailed on the site, only about one-third of
kids have no experience with bullying - but the remaining
two-thirds include professed bullies. Some of those surveyed
report experience on both sides of the confrontation. What
we particularly liked about this site is that it didn't
proffer a simplistic formula for combating what must seem
like the intractable bane of some kids' existences." (free pint?)

(fra den amerikanske psykolog forening)
"Nothing bewilders us more than the propensity of humans to hate other people for
the most inexplicable of reasons, including skin color, religion, language,
location, and so forth. In a century that has seen seemingly endless outpourings
of hatred and the systematic application of state-sponsored genocide, it's
incredible that the seductive lure of hatred continues to poison. The American
Psychological Association's Hate Crimes Today site is an attempt to expose this
problem to public view. The site basically consists of an article, An Age-Old
Foe in Modern Dress, which discusses the topic in some detail. It points out
that "most hate crimes are carried out by otherwise law- abiding young
people who see little wrong with their actions". Personal prejudice,
feeding off lies, myths, and ignorance, fuels most of this activity. "

dokumentar programmer fra USAs anerkendte offentligfinansierede TV-station
When Frontline was launched in 1983, the prospects for television news
documentaries looked grim. Pressure was on the network news departments to
become profitable, and the spirit of outspoken journalistic inquiry established
by programs like Edward R. Murrow's "See It Now" and "Harvest of Shame" had
given way to entertainment values and feature-filled magazine shows. Therefore,
it fell to public television to pick up the torch of public affairs and continue
this well-established broadcast news tradition. This PBS website previews future

Throughout history, liberty has inspired acts of great courage. Samuel Adams
risked his life to promote the cause of the American Revolution, while Charles
James Fox courageously defended American Independence in the British Parliament.
Lafayette led soldiers into battle, endured brutal prisons and faced the most
powerful rulers in Europe. Daniel O'Connell championed the cause of Irish
liberty for four tumultuous decades. The astonishing Swede Raoul Wallenberg
saved almost 100,000 Jews from Nazi death camps. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
defied death threats as he campaigned against segregationist laws, renewing the
"higher law" doctrine that laws just be judged by moral standards. This
excellent website, created by Jim Powell, hopes to enrich the visitor's
understanding of ideas, personalities and events in the history of liberty.
