| Museum of Online Museums www.coudal.com/archives/museum.html If you have a minute to spare, pay a visit to Coudal.Com's Museum of Online Museums (MoOM), which features shows and exhibits ranging from the classic and staid to the incredibly exotic. Broken into three separate categories, the site serves as a portal to some very distinctive collections, such as those of the Art Institute of Chicago and France's Musee d'Orsay. In its permanent collection, the MoOM site affords viewers the opportunity to consider "art" in ways they might never have considered, as in the exhibit of "Fading Billboards" and "Roadside and Outsider Art," just to name a few. Elevating to the level of art, objects probably never considered thus, the third showcase or portal leads the way to such attractions as "The Museum of Airsickness Bags," "Manhole Covers Arranged by County," and, a real find for Lego enthusiasts young and old, the "Lego Instructions" site. Linking and leading the way to much more worth considering, the Museum of Online Museums is sure to keep you engaged and in search of more | |

Footnotes to History
"...it was hard not to read about Araucania, a nation that bested both the Inca and the Spanish armies back in the 16th century. Then how to resist reading about the Auca Republic, a nation founded by escaped slaves in South America? Terse text with a bit of humor is used here to serve up fascinating tid-bits of trivia. Obscure countries and peoples, empires and republics expanding and then disappearing with nary a trace, they're all documented here. Well, maybe not all of them, but a heck of a lot of 'em are here, from A-Z (Abaco- Zoutpansberg). .." (netsurfer) "...Footnotes to History is an A to Z dictionary (brief encyclopedia-type entries) of forgotten nations, "ephemeral states, micronations, secessionist states, and every other kind of country you never heard of in high school." |

www.ancientscripts.com/
AncientScripts.com According to the site creator, Lawrence K. Lo, "The aim of Ancient Scripts is not to replace texts books or instructional web sites. Instead, it is designed to give an introduction to writing systems, which hopefully will tantalize the reader into searching for more information on the web or in books and publications." Major divisions within the site are: 1) Writing Systems; 2) Phonetics; 3) Historical Linguistics; 4) Extra (ramblings, games, etc); 5) Bibliography; and 6) Web links. Quite extensive and written in a style that is accessible to young learners. Nice graphics too. |

historiske myter "Myths are important symbols of cultural unity, and perhaps no myths are more important in the modern era than the historical myths that establish our national heritage and tell us where we came from as well as who we are. This website provides a collection of these urban myths and includes: (1) Italian dictator Benito Mussolini made the trains run on time. (2) The United States standard railroad gauge derives from the original specification for an Imperial Roman war chariot. (3) A death curse threatens U.S. Presidents elected in years evenly divisible by twenty. (4) A number of amazing coincidences can be found between the assassinations of Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy." (spartacus) |
