groups, although not always purposely or purposefully. ...This study, by students in the history department at Kenyon, examines the roles of and attitudes towards heretics, Jews, homosexuals, prostitutes, lepers, and witches in Medieval Europe in a fair and thorough fashion that could have, but didn't, descend to a kind of Dark Ages victim studies. As British Library curator Pamela Porter explains, war during the Middle Ages was a chaotic affair, and the common soldier often found himself hastily resorting to homemade armour and weaponry: "Although medieval battles now conjure up images of colourful banners, spirited charges and deeds of bravery, the lack of discipline in most medieval armies undoubtedly led to a great deal of brutality and bloodshed..."

"Richard FitzGilbert, the 1st Earl of Clare, arrived in England with William the Conqueror in 1066. As a reward for his contribution to the Norman victory, Richard was granted 179 manors in England. The next 200 years was a profitable time for the Clare family. By the 13th century, the Clare family was the second most powerful family in England . However, this all came to an end when Gilbert de Clare, the 10th Earl of Clare, was killed at Bannockburn on 24th June, 1314. Gilbert, who was only 23 years old, did not have any children and so his death brought an end to the male line of the Clare family and the family estates were divided between his three sisters. The resources on this website enable students to examine the influence that one family had on Norman England." (spartacus)

" The term "Arabic medicine" has been widely used to describe the body of healing knowledge native to Middle Eastern and North African countries. But this site adopts the term "Islamic medicine" to emphasize spiritual underpinnings that the authors feel elevate scientific cultural achievement to divine work. And the scientific achievements are fascinating. Read about how 9th-century Persian writings on smallpox were referenced in European medicine through the 18th century. How Middle Eastern physicians and alchemists preserved and built on much of the world's scientific knowledge all but lost to European culture during the dark ages. And anyone in the healing arts may be deeply moved and refreshed by the devotion in the words of The Oath of a Muslim Physician." (infomine)
